Art Center Ukiah will be looking skyward for motivation for their September art show. "There is a lot of amazing celestial activity happening in September this year," says Marilynn Zensen, one of the show's two coordinators. "The moon will be a Super Harvest Moon, plus it will experience a partial lunar eclipse in the middle of the month," she continues. "The September moon is famous for rising huge and bright right after sunset for several days in a row. That ought to provide a tremendous amount of inspiration to artists."

Marilynn provided more information about this celestial show from the EarthSky website. It suggests. "Look for the bright, round full supermoon rising in the east at sunset on September 17-18. It'll glow highest in the sky near midnight, and drop low in the west before sunrise on September 18. This is the full moon closest to the equinox and so we call it a Harvest Moon. The full supermoon of September 18, 2024, will be a Super Harvest Moon plus have a partial lunar eclipse."

Marilynn and Jacquie Lolich, the other show coordinator, asked in their call to artists, "What does this lunar magic do to you? Use any medium, in any number of dimensions, to show us what you see." Jacquie herself responded to the eerie sounds of coyotes howling at the full moon by creating a paper mache coyote for the show, which is a great example of how this theme can be creatively expanded to encompass anything associated with the magic of the moon.

The First Friday opening of this show is September 6, from 5-8pm. Harp music, appropriate for the theme of magic and wonder, will be provided throughout the evening by Suni Smith
